Sexfriend History
In 1990, sex educator Joani founded the original Sexfriend store in San Francisco. She pioneered an alternative to traditional adult stores by focusing on sex education and female pleasure. We soon found that men also appreciated this approach, and over the years we have maintained a focus on women and expanded it to include people across the gender spectrum.
Joani sold the company to her employees in 1992, making Sexfriend a worker-owned cooperative. We developed this alternative business model over 15 years as the market became more competitive. Sexfriend ceased to be a cooperative in 2006 but continues to grow and share our mission of positivity.
In 2023, with Joani's unfinished mission, we began to establish an online mall platform to develop merchants to sell our high-quality products, and quickly became the leading sex products wholesaler platform in the United States.
